Srinagar is located in the heart of Kashmir valley.
It is situated at an altitude of one thousand seven hundred and thirty meters. The city spreads its charm on both sides of river Jhelum. Srinagar is an enchanting city with fabulous setting, serene lakes, gorgeous mughal gardens, springs, charming hills, snow covered mountains, golf course, cycling tracks, trekking avenues, angling, water sports, indoor sports and world class hotels and restaurants. Apart from all these, Srinagar is endowed with spiritual places, exquisite arts and crafts and rich heritage. As is whole Jammu and Kashmir state, Srinagar is also blessed with beautiful lakes. The two prominent ones, Dal and Nagin enhance the already exquisite setting of Srinagar. Dal is one of the more beautiful lakes of India. It is the second largest in Jammu And Kashmir State. There are many houseboats moored in the lakes which let guests stay in the peace and tranquility of lakes. There are many gorgeous gardens in the state and many of them were set up by Mughals. Shalimar and Nishat are two of the famous Mughal gardens. They are situated on the shores of Dal lake. There are many ways of sightseeing in Srinagar but one of the more interesting ways is to do so in Shikara boats in Dal lake. There are many interesting spots by the sides of lake including Hazrathbal Shrine and Mughal gardens.Kashmir Tourism will sing lavish praises of Gulmarg. Its legendary beauty, prime location and proximity to Srinagar make Gulmarg one of premier hill resorts of Asia. In winter, when snow covers Gulmarg and gives it a picture postcard appearance, it is converted into the premier ski resort of the country. It has good sunshine and good snow which are the hallmarks of a good ski resort. The skiing season usually commences mid-December and lasts till March end. Gulmarg is well suited for learning skiing. It has some of the best slopes for beginners. Trained instructors are available for guidance. Gulmarg also offers a host of other snow sports like tobogganing and snowboarding.
Ladakh is situated at the western edge of Tibetan plateau and is bound in the south by Great Himalayas and in the north by Karokaram mountain range. It is a high altitude desert of fascinating landscape.
